This beauty was for the Valentines day party at the local fur meet. If you look back at my other cakes, you'll see that the palm pad was already vaguely heart shaped, so all I had to do was pick a color and enhance the shape just a bit. Aldi's had this beautiful shade of pink vanilla frosting that I simply couldn't pass up. The chocolate was a last minute buy when I realized that I didn't have anything to go between the pads!
The whole thing is delicious: vanilla pink frosting, smooth chocolate frosting, all over a red velvet paw cake. At the time that I'm writing this, only about a quarter of that big paw pad remains.
This cake taught me that I knew nothing of the terror that is frosting a cake. I was more than an hour late to the party because of this lesson! Tonight I also learned that if you keep putting in a little bit of effort at a time, eventually it pays off. Tonight was the first time I ever felt like I belonged at a 'large' party. In the past it was always my friends dragging me off to a room full of people I didn't know, my friends' friends and their friends' friends' friends. Tonight it was -my- friends, and I fit in.
I definitely didn't expect them to make as big a deal out of my cake as they did! Normally, I'm just happy if people eat the things I make. It's like repeatedly faving my piece of work, even if I -do- feel that these box cakes are like painting by numbers.
